Road Trippin': Part 3

On our last full day in Kansas we decided to take a little day trip to visit a few little towns to see their attractions. I LOVE Kansas towns because they have managed to keep their cute and rustic feeling downtowns, you won't find many good down towns in Texas so I love soaking in the Kansas ones.

The first stop was Ellinwood, Kansas where we went on a tour of the underground tunnels that existed during the western trail ridin' days. :) Don't quote me on that but you should look it up if you are really interested in knowing. It was a pretty cool tour.

In a basement, the start of our tour.

That door leads to the tunnels, the bricks to the right use to be a window.

The stairs to the right are where we came down.

This is where coal was stored.

In the barber shop, a game of poker was set up.

And the bath house...

The better tubs :)

After we left Ellinwood we headed over to Great Bend where we got to check out their awesome and FREE zoo! It was pretty neat and of course Hope LOVED it!

This train was out front!

After Great Bend we headed over to Fort Larnard. It was a Fort that existed to protect the wagons and their travelers from the Indians. You can go in and check out all the buildings.

Hope figuring out how to shoot the canon.

Such a happy girl!

It rained a lot while we were in Kansas too... one of the roads got closed on our way to our destinations... wonder why? :)
